Who are you?

We are Pascal, 26 and Max, 27 - the two founders of InStaff & Jobs - an Online Marketplace for Temporary Work.

Explain your idea a little more detailed.

We are creating an online marketplace where businesses can browse through a curated list of temporary staff profiles and book someone according to their needs - fully automatic. Temporary work is a 20 bn Euro market in Germany and has been growing at a rate of 20 percent per year for the last decade. It is dominated by employment agencies who do all the work manually. Currently we only offer fair trade hostesses and event staff, that can be booked online at www.instaff.jobs. To conquer the market, we first want to focus on exhibitions, events and catering, because these are the easiest markets to enter - a rather small niche market of about 1 bn Euro.

Introduce your team.

We met at our first day of university, when we studied business engineering in Karlsruhe together.

When did you start working on the project?

In November 2013.

Tell us the funniest moment that your funding team shares?

One investor proposed to corner the hostess market in order to gain market shares: "Just pay them so much salary, that they do not want to work for others anymore and thus you will be the hostesses monopolist." Yeah, cool. We will go for that.

Why are you better than your competitors?

There are two groups of competitors. First, temporary employment agencies face a classical innovators dilemma: if they offer a similar solution, they would cannibalize their currently very profitable business model. Second, there are some competitors emerging in the market, that also use tech to tackle the problems, but they all seem to either miss software development, online marketing or operational process expertise.

Who is your role model and why?

Pascal: I don't have a specific role model, but I enjoy inspirational quotes. For example Mark Zuckerberg included into one report the very inspirational message "We don't build products to make money, we make money to build better products". It should always be about creating something truly lasting that might make the world a better place.

Max: I rather look for the actions people take in different situations - I think you can learn a lot from that, e.g. Elon Musk that had the guts to put his own fortune from the sale of PayPal at risk to keep his next company running.

What’s your favorite Startup?

We both really like Whatsapp. Not because of their huge success, but because of their sole, simple focus: No games, no gimmicks, no ads.

Why did you choose the program?

Axel Springer seems to be most interesting media company in Europe and the deal seemed fair to us. Furthermore, investors tend to underestimate the pain of slow processes. Axel Springer Plug and Play was fast, easy and did not distract us too much from building our product.

Name 3 words that display your expectations towards the program.

Operations, Strategy, Connections

Where do you see yourself in three month? And in a year?

In 3 months: 7 k monthly revenue and the most visible online presence of any hostess agency. Database of about 1.000 hostesses, that all ran through quality checks.

In 12 months: 70 k monthly revenue and having entered new verticals like event and catering staff. Database of about 5.000 people, that all ran through quality checks.
